A mother has sparked widespread discussion on social media after revealing the mysterious items she discovered in her 16-year-old son’s bag during a weekend visit.
The woman shared her experience in a post published by X user @Laineytale, explaining that her son lives with his father and only spends weekends with her.
According to her, she stumbled upon several small tubes inside his bag but was unable to get an explanation from him, as he has repeatedly avoided the subject.
Distressed by the discovery, she turned to social media for help, asking users if anyone could identify the items.
“I have a 16-year-old son. He lives with his father and only comes to stay with me on weekends. When he came over on Friday, I found a bunch of these things in his bag. Does anyone know what they are? My son is completely avoiding the topic and won’t tell me,” she wrote.
The post quickly attracted numerous reactions, with many users offering possible explanations.
One user, Wasiu Shafara, commented, “Teenagers really act like Google is a better parent sometimes.”
Another user, A46 Highmark, suggested the objects were standard laboratory supplies used for holding, mixing, storing, or centrifuging small liquid samples in biology, chemistry, or school science experiments.
Richard also weighed in, identifying them as Eppendorf tubes commonly used for processing PCR samples in laboratories. He speculated that the teenager may have picked them up from discarded laboratory waste, highlighting concerns about poor waste disposal practices.
Kim Taylor, who performed a reverse image search, noted that the tubes could also be used for storing chlorophyll in fishing, although they are more commonly associated with science laboratories and may have come from school.
The mother’s post has since generated mixed reactions, with many encouraging her to have a calm and open conversation with her son before jumping to conclusions about the items’ purpose.
