Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, has authorized a small cabinet reorganization that removes six commissioners from their State Executive Council positions.
Shortly after the State Executive Council met at the Government House in Lafia, the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barrister Labaran Shuaibu-Magaji, revealed this.
The commissioners in charge of the Ministries of Security, Women Affairs, Works, Science and Technology, Information, and Lands were among those impacted.
According to the SSG, the Governor’s decision was not informed by any poor performance on the part of the commissioners but by the need to inject fresh energy into the administration, even as the Council commended the outgoing commissioners for their dedication, efficiency, and contributions during their time in office.
He explained that the adjustment was designed to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration, and ensure that the mandate given to Governor Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of the administration.
The SSG further stated that the outgoing cabinet members remain valued partners of the government and could be re-engaged for other assignments in the future, adding that replacement nominees would be announced through official government channels in due course.
Beyond the cabinet changes, the State Executive Council also held extensive discussions on ways to maximise the state’s revenue by tapping into Nasarawa’s growing lithium sector, a move that follows the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in the state by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Magaji added that the government was finalising actionable strategies to harness the economic potential of the processing industry, with specific measures to be announced soon.
