Fashola Rules Out Presidential Ambition, Says ‘I’m President at Home’

Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has dismissed speculation that he may contest for the presidency of Nigeria, saying he has no interest in seeking the country’s highest political office.
Speaking during an interview on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said he is content with life outside public office.
Responding to a question about a possible presidential bid, Fashola said:
> “No, president of what? I’m president at home.”
He explained that he does not miss holding public office, noting that he has had the privilege of serving at the highest levels of government and is grateful for the opportunity.
Fashola added that life after public service has been less stressful, saying he now has more time to rest and enjoy his meals, unlike during his years in government when work demands were intense.
Although he is no longer in government, Fashola said he remains active in the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the APC in Lagos State, where he attends meetings and offers advice. He stressed, however, that he is careful to distinguish between providing constructive guidance and interfering in the affairs of those currently in office.
His comments appear to put to rest speculation about any intention to seek the Nigerian presidency, reaffirming that he has no plans to return to elective office at this time.
