Dr. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, has urged Nigerians to lead healthier lives, emphasizing that achieving general welfare depends on keeping the brain healthy.
In a statement released on Wednesday to commemorate World Brain Day in 2026, Soludo, the founder of the non-governmental organization Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, made the request.
She said practices such as eating nutritious meals, engaging in regular physical activity, getting adequate sleep, continuous learning and prioritising mental wellness could help protect brain health.
According to her, individuals should pay greater attention to their mental wellbeing and reduce the risk of neurological disorders through healthy habits, including exercise, proper sleep and managing cardiovascular risks.
She noted that as the world commemorates World Brain Day, it is important to remember that a healthy brain forms the foundation of a sound and healthy life, adding that embracing good nutrition, regular physical activity, quality sleep, lifelong learning and mental wellness helps protect what she described as one of God’s greatest gifts.
She urged Nigerians to nurture their minds, support one another, and work towards building a healthier, more productive society.
The First Lady encouraged Nigerians to make brain health a priority, noting that individual and collective efforts toward healthier living would contribute to building a more productive society.
World Brain Day is observed annually on July 22 and was established by the World Federation of Neurology to raise awareness about neurological disorders and promote access to brain health services.
This year’s campaign focuses on making brain healthcare accessible to all, regardless of social or economic background, while encouraging early detection, timely diagnosis and proper care to help preserve independence among people affected by neurological conditions.
