Ogun monarch urges indigenes to unite for community development

The Kegbo of the Atikori Kingdom in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, Oba Ibitoye Solaja, has called on indigenes of the community at home and in the diaspora to unite and contribute to the development of the kingdom.

The monarch made the appeal during an interview on Saturday at his palace ahead of activities marking his 25th coronation anniversary scheduled for December.

Oba Solaja said the progress of the Atikori Kingdom depended on the collective commitment and contributions of its people, noting that the community has produced accomplished professionals in various fields.

According to him, the kingdom has produced distinguished professionals whose knowledge, influence and experience should be harnessed to advance the community.

“In the whole of Ijebu-Igbo, Atikori is Ward One. God has made us leaders. Our Kingdom has produced notable vice-chancellors, professors, medical doctors, distinguished engineers and architects, successful entrepreneurs, accomplished writers and many other outstanding sons and daughters who have excelled in different fields.

“I therefore appeal to every indigene of Atikori, both at home and abroad, to remain committed to the development of our Kingdom. Let us deploy the knowledge, resources, experience and goodwill that God has blessed us with to build a stronger, greater and more prosperous Atikori.

“Historically, whatever Atikori does, other communities often emulate. Let us therefore continue to provide leadership through unity, vision and service. Together, we can preserve our heritage while building a future that generations yet unborn will be proud of,” the monarch said.

The traditional ruler also appealed to the Ogun State and Federal Governments to invest more in infrastructure and public facilities in the kingdom.

According to him, the Atikori Kingdom hosts key public institutions, including Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic and the Nigerian Correctional Service Academy, making it deserving of greater government attention.

He said increased investment would enhance the community’s educational and economic potential while accelerating development.

Oba Solaja expressed gratitude to God for preserving him throughout his 25 years on the throne and prayed for continued peace and development in the kingdom.

He disclosed that activities lined up for the silver jubilee celebration would include the inauguration of community projects, the installation of chiefs, a praise concert and a thanksgiving service.

The monarch urged indigenes, friends of the kingdom and other well-wishers to participate in the anniversary celebration.
