61-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth To Healthy Baby In Greater Accra After Decades Of Childlessness

A 61-year-old woman has defied medical expectations by giving birth to a healthy baby in the Greater Accra Region, ending what is reported to be decades of childlessness in a development that has drawn widespread attention and admiration on social media.

Video of the new mother shows her lying in a hospital bed with an IV line attached, making what appears to be an “OK” gesture with both hands in evident celebration, while her newborn baby lies in a hospital bassinet beside her.

The birth has been described as a remarkable medical and personal milestone, given that natural conception and delivery at 61 is exceptionally rare.

Women typically enter menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, after which natural pregnancy is considered impossible without assisted reproductive technology such as in-vitro fertilisation using donor eggs.

The specific medical circumstances surrounding the pregnancy including whether the birth was the result of natural conception or assisted reproduction had not been officially confirmed at the time of publication.

The identities of the mother and the facility where the delivery took place were also not publicly disclosed.
