One killed, houses burnt as boundary dispute escalates in Niger

A boundary dispute between two communities in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State has left one person dead and three houses burnt.
The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X on Tuesday night by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the violence followed a long-running boundary dispute between Ejingi and Kakpiyi communities.

The attack reportedly occurred on July 11 when suspected attackers from Kakpiyi community, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed Ejingi Village. During the attack, they allegedly destroyed farmlands, set three rooms on fire and shot 27-year-old Muhammed Alfa, who died from his injuries.

Police operatives were said to have responded to the scene after receiving a report of the attack.

“The victim’s body was evacuated to the General Hospital in Agaie for an autopsy before it was later released to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites,” Makama wrote.

The post added that security personnel have restored normalcy in the affected community.

Makama further stated that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the violence.
