Oyo Police arrest masquerade over alleged k!lling during Ibadan procession

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested the Asoleke masquerade over the alleged k!lling of a 24-year-old man, Sefiu Kehinde, during a masquerade procession in the Labiran area of Ibadan.

‎In a statement issued on Monday, July 6, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the deceased was allegedly attacked by the masquerade and some of its followers during the procession on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

‎According to the statement, the incident was reported at the Mapo Divisional Police Headquarters, after which a team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Mapo Division immediately mobilised to the scene and rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment. However, he was confirmed de@d on arrival by the doctor on duty.

‎Olayinka said detectives processed and documented the crime scene, while the deceased’s family later obtained permission to bury the body in accordance with Islamic rites. ‎

‎The command confirmed that the Asoleke masquerade has been arrested in connection with the incident, while four of his alleged accomplices remain at large.
