PSC sacks four senior police officers, demotes 10

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed four senior police officers after finding them guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct and acts considered unbecoming of public officers.
The decision was taken during the commission’s plenary meeting in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
Beyond the dismissals, the commission also approved the demotion of 10 senior officers for various disciplinary infraction.
Three Superintendents of Police were reduced to the rank of deputy superintendent of police, two deputy superintendents of police were demoted to assistant superintendent of police, while five assistant superintendents of police were reduced to the rank of inspector.
The PSC also ordered the compulsory retirement of two officers in the public interest.
Other disciplinary measures included severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five officers, warning letters issued to three officers and a letter of advice to one officer. Seven officers were, however, cleared after investigations found no basis for disciplinary action against them.
Chairman of the commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, said the PSC remains committed to enforcing discipline across the police force, stressing that acts of misconduct would continue to attract appropriate sanctions.
He noted that the commission would not tolerate indiscipline among officers and would continue to uphold professionalism in line with its constitutional mandate.
The PSC said the disciplinary actions reflect its determination to ensure accountability and improve public confidence in policing through strict enforcement of ethical standards.
