Rosie O’Donnell credits GLP-1 drug for ‘saving’ her life: ‘Wish I could do commercials’

Rosie O’Donnell credits the GLP-1 drug Mounjaro “saved” her life, years after gaining weight while grieving the loss of her mother.
“When my mom died, all of us children gained weight,” the talk show icon told People in an interview published Thursday, referencing the 1973 death of her family’s matriarch, Roseann O’Donnell.
The “A League of Their Own” actress recalled her father giving the five children “a $100 bill and we would go to Foodtown to do the food shopping.”
“Now if you’re 11-years-old and you’re shopping for a family of five, there’s nothing nutritious about it,” she shared. “It was Entenmann’s and Cap’n Crunch and we would always say, ‘Subtotal please,’ and when it got near $100, we’d put back the chicken and the hamburger meat.”
“Everyone got heavy,” O’Donnell remembered. “Everyone was in such grief and trauma.”

“And so Mounjaro saved my life,” she declared, noting that since starting the medication, she’s “lost a pound or two a month for three years.”
“I really wish I could do commercials for Mounjaro and they would drop the price instead of paying me,” the “View” alum gushed. “Because when I see people struggling with obesity, I want to say I know the shame that we carry and the humiliation that is dealt to people who are overweight.”
The “Sleepless in Seattle” actress, 64, also looked back on feelings of pressure when it came to body image.
“When I would do late night, my biggest concern wasn’t my set, it was, did I look fat?” she told the outlet. “The first time I did a talk show, it was Pat Sajak and people were saying ‘You were so good,’ and I’d go, ‘How did I look in that blazer?’ I wasn’t even heavy then.”

O’Donnell confessed that she now feels “much healthier and more powerful” in her “physicality.”
The comedian, however, isn’t the only celebrity to share their experiences with GLP-1s — and some have had less positive reactions.
In June, Mayim Bialik wrote in a tell-all essay that she went on a GLP-1 drug to address various health issues and claimed she suffered “explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea” and “sneezing attacks” when she tried to eat or drink.
The “Big Bang Theory” alum also said she experienced cramping, bloating and “full-body aching.”
Also in June, Jenny Mollen claimed on an episode of the “Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa” podcast that while “microdosing” a GLP-1 and “taking other peptides” she experienced an increase in bleeding.

The actress recalled “hemorrhaging” and heavy bleeding, which she noted could be “just the perimenopausal situation.”
Mollen also shared that estranged husband Jason Biggs was “screaming like a horror movie” before she fainted multiple times and ultimately was transported to a hospital.
The “Angel” alum — who said she was taking the medication because she has hyperthyroid and is autoimmune — ultimately wasn’t sure why she experienced so much bleeding.
“I don’t know if it was the GLP-1 necessarily,” she said of the “harrowing” experience. “I think it was because I think it was messing with my hormones a little bit. I think had I stayed on it I would have been fine. But getting off it and then back on it is what screwed me.”
