LPPC elevates 68 lawyers to SAN rank

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The decision was reached at the committee’s 174th plenary session held on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola, the 2026 conferment comprises 67 advocates and one academic, Prof. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri, who was elevated in recognition of his contributions to legal scholarship.
The LPPC explained that the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred on legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as courtroom advocates or as academics who have made significant contributions to the development of the law.
According to the press statement, all successful applicants must attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme before the rank can be formally conferred on them. The date for the induction programme will be announced later.
The LPPC also reminded the successful applicants to comply with paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023.
It warned that nominees must neither publish nor encourage the publication of advertisements, congratulatory messages, or goodwill notices relating to their nomination or conferment, noting that violations could attract sanctions.
The formal swearing-in ceremony for the 68 successful applicants is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 12, 2026.
