Security for Nigerians, Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom more important that 2027 polls – OYC to US Govt

President General of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, has criticized a member of the United States Congress, Riley Moore, for his statement that the administration of the President Donald Trump will closely monitor Nigeria’s 2027 election.

Igboayaka who was responding to the statement on Monday, said the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and defeating insurgency in Nigeria should be considered more important by the US government, than the monitoring of 2027 polls.

Igboayaka said Nigerians are weary of words without corresponding actions, noting that the rescue and survival of Christians in Nigeria may not be facilitated by international or diplomatic aid, but rather by internal efforts of indigenous Nigerians.

He described the issue of election monitoring as a misplaced priority over the pressing needs of Nigerians.

“The United States administration under Donald Trump should prioritize the protection of lives and properties of Christians in Nigeria over monitoring the 2027 elections,” he said.

Igboayaka claimed that the Trump’s administration has fallen short of expectations regarding the alleged killing and persecution of Christians in parts of the country.

“The remarks made by Riley Moore in an interview that has been circulating online, addressing questions about Nigeria’s democratic process, concerns over corruption, and the United States’ role in supporting credible elections in Nigeria, are less engaging,” Igboayaka said.

According to Igboayaka, the Trump administration needs to adopt a more concrete approach to resolving Nigeria’s long-standing issues by strategizing a viable plan for a referendum or plebiscite in Nigeria.
