In order to improve security and combat banditry, abduction, and other violent crimes, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the formation of a new Army battalion in Kwara State.
The battalion is anticipated to increase troop deployment and military operations, especially in areas impacted by kidnappings and bandit attacks.
It will be situated in Omu Aran, the Irepodun Local Government Area headquarters.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq revealed this.
He characterized the permission as yet another indication of the federal government’s dedication to tackling the state’s security issues.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new military formation, stating that it would reinforce ongoing counter-terr0rism and anti-kidn@pping operations in the state.
He expressed confidence that the new battalion would go a long way in strengthening efforts against terr0rism and kidn@pping.
AbdulRazaq also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for the prompt handling of the request, while appreciating the Office of the National Security Adviser and other security agencies for their continued efforts in tackling violent crime.
He disclosed that security agencies were also carrying out coordinated operations aimed at rescuing kidn@pped victims and flushing out criminal elements hiding in forests across the state.
The approval comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State, particularly in the Babanla community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where residents have alleged repeated b@ndit att@cks.
