Trump assassination fears force huge last-minute Secret Service change to NATO trip

The sudden swap was ordered by the US Secret Service as an urgent “security precaution”. In a highly unusual logistical manoeuvre, Mr Trump sent his new tech-heavy jet ahead to Britain while he remained on the older aircraft. After touching down at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, the President swapped planes, boarding the new Qatari-gifted aircraft for his journey back to Washington.
Mr Trump attempted to downplay the security panic on his Truth Social network, claiming he sent the new jet ahead so British-based service members could take a look.
“Everybody is so excited, and we thought that they should be the first. For old time’s sake, we’ll be taking the former Air Force One, from Turkey,” Mr Trump posted.
However, the reality behind the scenes painted a much more volatile picture. The sudden switch on the jet’s maiden foreign trip instantly sparked frantic speculation that its onboard security defence systems were lacking – especially as the US launched fresh military strikes against Iran, which shares a border with Turkey.
According to The New York Times, security sources confirmed that the new plane lacks some of the advanced defensive capabilities of the legacy Air Force One, though they insisted the move wasn’t prompted by any specific threat. However, reporters in the press cabin were ordered to keep their window shades completely closed during take-off, without explanation.
The dramatic security operation came right as Mr Trump publicly acknowledged the price on his head. During a tense press conference alongside top cabinet officials, including Marco Rubio, the President alluded to ongoing Iranian plots to take him out.
“They [Iran] want to take out the US leader – me. I’m on every list,” he declared at the NATO summit. “I’m on every single one of their lists, and so far I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long, because that’s the way it goes. I may be gone because I’m their number one target… because they’re scum.”
The panic grew after Mr Trump declared his ceasefire with Iran “over,” unleashing fresh retaliatory strikes on the regime following Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Aboard the aircraft after leaving Turkey, Mr Trump warned a reporter: “You’re probably on a dangerous flight because of the sleazebags we have to deal with.”
