Umahi accuses critics of ‘AI politics’, dismisses Peter Obi’s death claims

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has accused critics of engaging in “AI politics” and making empty promises instead of delivering measurable achievements, as he dismissed claims that anyone wants the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, dead.

Umahi spoke at the weekend while inspecting President Bola Tinubu’s legacy projects in Ebonyi State. He said the allegation of a death threat against Obi stemmed from frustration over the administration’s visible development in the South-East.

“Nobody wants Obi dead. It’s not reasonable,” the minister declared. “We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again.”

Umahi argued that the South-East, which Obi described as his “catchment area” following the 2023 election, is now shifting its allegiance because of the Federal Government’s infrastructure projects under Tinubu.

“What he is afraid of is because he said the South-East is his catchment area because of the last election, which I call an accident of history. But we have come with visible development in the zone, and our people have now agreed with us that we are better off with President Tinubu completing the good works he is doing for us,” he said.

The minister said the President’s infrastructure drive across the region had addressed complaints of marginalisation and demonstrated that “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”

Reiterating his readiness to debate Obi, Umahi said the South-East should appreciate its inclusion in national development and the quality of projects delivered so far.

He listed ongoing federal projects in the region, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, as well as several bridges and flyovers.

He maintained that President Tinubu remains the only candidate with the capacity to complete the ongoing projects in the South-East.
