Edo Police restrict movement for July 11 LG elections

The Edo State Police Command has announced restriction of movement across the state ahead of the Local Government Council elections scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The restriction will take effect from 12:00 midnight to 3:00 p.m. on election day, according to a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

The Command said the measure was part of comprehensive security arrangements put in place in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure a peaceful, orderly and secure electoral process.

According to the statement, the restriction is aimed at protecting voters, electoral officials and sensitive election materials, as well as preventing any breakdown of law and order during the polls.

The police said all vehicular and human movements within the state would be prohibited during the period, except for officials on election duty.

Those exempted include officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, accredited election observers, duly accredited media personnel, security agencies, emergency responders and other essential service providers on election duty.

The Command advised members of the public to comply fully with the directive, warning that security operatives had been strategically deployed across the 18 local government areas of the state to enforce the order and maintain peace.

It warned that any person or group found violating the restriction or engaging in acts capable of disrupting the electoral process would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, reassured residents that adequate security arrangements had been made to safeguard the election.

He urged eligible voters to come out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility in line with the guidelines issued by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.

Agbonika said the Command remained committed to ensuring a free, fair, peaceful and credible electoral process in the state.
