‘We waited 40 years for this’ — ABU VC applauds road reconstruction

The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Adamu Ahmed, says the Kaduna State Government’s ongoing reconstruction of internal roads is the biggest intervention the institution has received in recent years.

Ahmed said the project was one the university had waited more than 40 years to witness, describing it as unprecedented and beyond expectations.

“We have waited for 40 years for this,” he said during an inspection of the ongoing road reconstruction project within the institution.

He said the roads were being executed in collaboration with the university’s engineers, ensuring strict adherence to engineering standards.

He commended Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, for extending the intervention to a federal university without any formal request.

He urged other northern governors to emulate the gesture by supporting ABU, describing it as a shared heritage of Northern Nigeria.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, said the inspection covered ongoing projects across the state.

He said the governor had initiated about 150 road projects covering approximately 1,345 kilometres across Kaduna State’s 23 local government areas.

He described the reconstruction of ABU’s internal roads as a landmark intervention in a federal university.

He appealed to the university community to protect the infrastructure after completion.

Also speaking, the Students’ Union Government President, Abdulrahman Aliyu, thanked the governor for the intervention.

Aliyu described the project as one of the biggest infrastructure interventions recently witnessed by the university.

Also, the project engineer for Farm Fab Nigeria Limited, Abdullhakeem Hamza, said construction had reached an advanced stage.

Hamza said drainage works had largely been completed while pavement construction was ongoing.

He expressed optimism that asphalt laying would commence shortly, with completion expected before the end of the rainy season.
