JUST IN: Security operatives foil kidnappers’ ransom plot, rescue woman, child in Kwara forest

A joint security operation has successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and her two-year-old son from a forest in Bode Sadu, Kwara State.
The operation, led by ASP Ajegoke Amos of the FID-IRT in collaboration with local security ally Chief Adeyemo Sunday, popularly known as Igboho, targeted a suspected kidnapping syndicate believed to be operating within the forest.
The mission, which began on July 1, 2026, reached a critical point on July 3 when operatives executed a strategic move by contacting the kidnappers under the pretext of ransom payment. However, the suspects became suspicious upon noticing the presence of security personnel and opened fire, triggering a gun battle.
During the exchange, several members of the gang were reportedly injured before fleeing further into the forest.
Undeterred, the operatives advanced into the area in pursuit of the suspects. While combing the forest, they heard cries for help and traced the sound to a location where the abducted woman and her child were being held.
Both victims were rescued unharmed and safely evacuated from the scene. They are currently receiving medical attention at Igboho General Hospital.
The operation marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and highlights the coordinated response between security agencies and local collaborators in dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding lives.
