Nigerian Afrobeats star, Wizkid, has revealed that he struggled with food while living in the United States, explaining that his love for Nigerian meals made his stay challenging.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Grammy-winning singer said he became bored during the two years he spent in the US, as he could not access Nigerian food as often as he wanted.
According to him, he spent between $300 and $400 daily throughout that period just to enjoy Nigerian meals.
Despite his global fame and luxury lifestyle, the singer described himself as a “local boy,” adding that his preference for Nigerian food has remained unchanged over the years.
He explained that he only eats Nigerian food no matter where he goes, and that he grew bored staying in the US for two years because he wasn’t getting enough of it.
He said he used to spend between $300 and $400 every single day for those two years just to get a taste of Nigerian food, adding that beneath his glamorous lifestyle, he remains a local boy at heart who cares little for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton or Gucci, since he simply loves what he loves.
He noted that one can take the boy out of the ghetto, but never the ghetto out of the boy.
