Newly sworn-in Delta State Commissioner, Moses Ogodo, became emotional on Monday as  Governor Sheriff Oborevwori formally inaugurated him into the State Executive Council.

Ogodo broke down in tears shortly after taking the oath of office at the Government House in Asaba and attempted to kneel before the governor in appreciation for his appointment.

However, Oborevwori immediately stopped him from doing so.

According to the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, on Tuesday, the governor urged the new commissioner to stand up, stressing that public service was a collective responsibility.

“Don’t kneel down for me. Stand up. We are here to serve Deltans together,” Oborevwori told the commissioner.

The governor’s intervention drew applause from those present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Sharing details of the incident in a post on Tuesday, Ossai described the moment as one of “tears of joy” and said it reflected the governor’s leadership style.

“Tears Of Joy As Delta Governor Oborevwori Swears In Moses Ogodo as Commissioner,” he wrote.

“It was a moment of tears of joy at the Government House, Asaba, as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori swore in Hon Moses Ogodo as Commissioner.”

According to him, the emotional atmosphere intensified when Ogodo attempted to kneel before the governor after taking the oath.

“The atmosphere became emotional when the new Commissioner moved to kneel down in appreciation to the Governor after taking the oath of office.”

He noted that Oborevwori immediately discouraged the gesture.

“But Governor Oborevwori quickly stopped him, saying: ‘Don’t kneel down for me. Stand up. We are here to serve Deltans together.’”

Ossai said the governor’s response demonstrated humility and commitment to service.

“That’s leadership. That’s humility. That’s M.O.R.E Agenda in action,” he added.

A video accompanying the post captured the emotional commissioner wiping away tears before moving towards the governor, who gestured for him to stand instead of kneeling. The two subsequently exchanged a handshake as guests applauded.
