Xenophobia: 801 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa as Air Peace completes third mission

The total number of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa following xenophobic attacks has risen to 801, following the successful completion of a third humanitarian evacuation mission by Air Peace.

The returnees were evacuated across three humanitarian operations, with the airline airlifting 262 Nigerians on June 11, 271 on June 30, and 268 on July 3, in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

On Friday, Air Peace successfully concluded its third humanitarian evacuation mission, bringing 268 stranded Nigerian nationals safely home from South Africa.

The latest evacuation exercise was coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with other relevant government agencies.

The flight departed Johannesburg shortly after midnight on Thursday and landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 5:30am on Friday with the 268 returnees.

The evacuees comprised 166 males and 102 females, including children.

The latest evacuation further underscores Air Peace’s enduring partnership with the Federal Government in delivering timely humanitarian interventions and safeguarding the welfare of Nigerian citizens in times of crisis.

Beyond connecting destinations, the airline said it remains committed to reconnecting Nigerians with their families and providing hope and reassurance during moments of uncertainty.
