Kogi State Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo has given twenty thousand naira to each of 1,490 corps members arriving in the state for national service.
The total donation comes to 29.8 million naira.
The money is meant to help the young people with transport and other costs as they start their postings across the state.
The governor presented the gifts at the closing ceremony of this year’s NYSC orientation course held at the orientation camp in Asaya, Kabba.
Speaking through his commissioner for youth affairs, Ododo said his government believes in young people and wants to support their growth and development.
He encouraged the corps members to act as agents of positive change in their communities, using what they learned during orientation to help improve people’s lives.
The governor stressed the importance of discipline, honesty, patriotism and service.
He also promised that his administration would look after the corps members’ safety while they serve in the state and called on host communities to welcome them and keep them secure.
The coordinator of the NYSC programme in Kogi expressed appreciation for the governor’s constant support of the corps members, including previous donations of food and money.
She said the 1,490 newly arrived corps members had gone through three weeks of intensive training to prepare them for their service year.
