2027: Ogun youths mobilise support for Tinubu, Yayi

The Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Armstrong Akintunde, has said the group’s recent solidarity walk by youths and students in Abeokuta was organised to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akintunde disclosed this while addressing participants at the Ake Palace in Abeokuta after the procession, which attracted scores of youths, students, APC members and other supporters, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said the exercise was aimed at mobilising young people in support of Tinubu’s anticipated second-term bid, Abiodun’s senatorial ambition and Adeola’s governorship aspiration in Ogun State.

According to him, the movement was inspired by what it described as the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, as well as the developmental projects and empowerment initiatives of Abiodun and Adeola.

He added that the solidarity walk was also intended to encourage greater youth participation in the democratic process while reaffirming members’ commitment to the APC.

Akintunde said, “The solidarity walk is for our three leaders: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).

“It is a demonstration of our confidence in their leadership and our commitment to supporting them ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

He commended Adeola for his contributions to youth empowerment and infrastructure development across Ogun State, expressing confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the next election cycle.

“We have every reason to support our leaders because we are confident that, come 2027, they will record a landslide victory.

“Over the past three years, President Tinubu’s reforms and Senator Yayi’s track record in empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects have continued to inspire many young people to support their leadership,” he added.

The procession began at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, with participants marching peacefully through major streets of Abeokuta while displaying banners and placards and chanting slogans in support of Tinubu, Abiodun and Adeola.

Also speaking at the Ake Palace, a co-convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement and former member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, Kehinde Odeneye, described the exercise as peaceful and orderly.

He commended Akintunde for promoting unity among members of the movement, particularly its youth and student wings.

“The youth and student wings of the movement conducted this peaceful and orderly exercise under our supervision. This initiative promotes unity, encourages active political participation and strengthens youth engagement within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State,” Odeneye said.

He added, “We also want the public to know that we remain firmly aligned with our leaders and fully support the position expressed by our convener.

“They have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, and we are pleased to organise this exercise in support of their vision as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.”
