New Army divisions will strengthen anti-terror operations – Group

Abuja – The Unity Advocacy Group (UAG) has said the establishment of four additional Nigerian Army divisions will strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations and improve the military’s response to emerging security threats across the country.

The Convener of the group, Mr Ifeanyi Aigbedion, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja while reacting to the recent expansion of the Nigerian Army’s divisional structure.

Aigbedion described the decision by President Bola Tinubu and the military high command as a strategic step towards enhancing the operational capacity of the Armed Forces.

He said the additional divisions would improve command and control, facilitate faster deployment of troops and expand military presence in vulnerable areas.

According to him, the expansion comes at a critical period when security forces are sustaining pressure on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements across various theatres of operation.

He said the new formations would provide greater operational flexibility for commanders and improve coordination of military operations aimed at restoring peace and security.

Aigbedion added that increased military presence in strategic locations would enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen surveillance and support efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and criminal hideouts.

“The establishment of the new divisions demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture and responding effectively to evolving security challenges.

“We believe the expanded force structure will significantly reinforce ongoing counter-terrorism operations and improve the military’s capacity to protect lives and property across the country,” he said.

Aigbedion also commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for his leadership in driving strategic reforms and capacity-building initiatives within the Armed Forces.

He expressed optimism that the additional divisions would consolidate recent operational gains and further enhance joint military operations against criminal elements.

The group also praised President Tinubu for supporting measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of the military and strengthening national security.

It expressed confidence that the new divisions would contribute to the restoration of lasting peace, stability and socio-economic development across the country.
