A man has been arrested in Abuja for pretending to be a secret police officer and using that fake identity to frighten and rob people on the streets.
Security agents tracked down Moferewa Maiye to a location near Wuse II on Wednesday night after receiving tip-offs from the public.
When arrested, Maiye was wearing a DSS uniform and carrying a fake w@pon.
He used these items to intimidate commuters and motorists, demanding money from them.
When questioned, Maiye claimed the uniform belonged to his brother, who he said was a real secret police officer who died years ago.
He said he had kept his brother’s gear after the man’s death.
Security officials are now investigating how Maiye obtained the uniform and other equipment in the first place.
They are also trying to find out how long he had been impersonating an officer and robbing people.
The suspect remains in custody while authorities continue their questioning.
This arrest highlights a growing concern in the country people pretending to be security personnel to frighten members of the public and commit crimes.
Authorities are working to stop this kind of activity, which undermines public trust and puts innocent people at risk.
