APC LG chairman shot dead in Kogi

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, has been shot dead.
Yunusa was killed along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday.
The incident was confirmed on Friday by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu.
According to the police, the attack occurred at about 5pm, when armed men reportedly emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists along the highway.
Saliu said Yunusa, who was driving the vehicle, was found dead inside the car after the attack, while another occupant was abducted and taken into the bush by the assailants.
“The driver, identified as Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, was found dead in the vehicle, while another occupant was taken into the bush by the assailants,” the police spokesperson said.
Following the attack, the Kogi State Police Command said it had intensified security operations in collaboration with other security agencies.
Security personnel are currently combing the surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the abducted victim and track down those responsible for the attack.
The police said Yunusa’s remains had been evacuated to Grimard Hospital, Anyigba, for autopsy, while investigators were pursuing leads that could help identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, ordered sustained security operations along the affected corridor.
He also directed the command to intensify efforts to apprehend the attackers and bring them to justice.
The command urged motorists and residents living along the route to exercise caution and remain vigilant, particularly in view of the attack.
It also called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the police and other security agencies.
The command said it would provide further updates as investigations and the ongoing security operation progress.
