Man arrested in Cross River for allegedly beating his 6-year-old stepdaughter to d3ath after accusing her of being a witch


The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Saviour Otu Adim, for the alleged m8rder of his six-year-old stepdaughter in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, 28 August 2026.
“The Cross River State Police Command has arrested Saviour Otu Adim, male, aged 29 years, in connection with the alleged m3rder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Goodness Ekpo Okon,” the statement read.
According to the police spokesman, the incident was reported on 28 August 2026 by Mrs Itoro Udofia, who alleged that the suspect assaulted the deceased, resulting in her d3ath.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect had allegedly accused the child of being a witch.
The PPRO further disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
Akata added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation.
He urged members of the public to protect children, promptly report cases of abuse, and refrain from spreading unverified information or taking the law into their own hands.
