For several hours on Wednesday, youths under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Assembly staged a rally in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, to commend President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the 10 Division of the Nigerian Army in the state.

The youth groups expressed high optimism that this newly established military formation will serve as a strategic intervention to suppress ongoing security challenges across Taraba, Adamawa, and the wider North-East region.

Addressing journalists during the procession, the spokesperson for the group, Aliyu Mohammad Sani, described the new 10 Division as a “fortress for Taraba and a shield for the entire North-East”.

He added that it directly addresses long-standing cries from communities heavily impacted by insecurity.

Sani said the establishment of the division demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing security concerns affecting communities in the region.

He said, “This division is a fortress for Taraba and a shield for the entire North-East. For too long, our communities cried out for a force that understood our landscape, our fears and our hopes, and Mr President answered that call.”

He also commended the Federal Government for the recent increase in the salaries of military personnel, describing it as a morale booster for troops serving in frontline areas.

“It tells every man and woman on the front line that their sacrifice is seen and their blood is honoured,” he said.

Sani also commended the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff for their efforts toward strengthening the country’s security architecture.

He said the establishment of the division had given residents renewed confidence in ongoing efforts to address insecurity.

Also speaking, the spokesperson for the Taraba People’s Movement, Comrade Umar Sani Bello, said the solidarity march was organised to convey the appreciation of residents to the Federal Government for the establishment of the military formation.

Bello said the development had renewed hope for improved security in the region, adding that the people of Taraba were ready to collaborate with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to enhance security operations in the state.
