Betta Edu mourns veteran journalist, Anietie Ben Akpan

Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has condoled with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Cross River State media community and the management and staff of The Guardian over the death of veteran journalist, Anietie Ben Akpan.
Edu, in a condolence message on Tuesday, described Akpan’s death as a painful loss to the journalism profession and all those who knew and worked with him.
She said she knew the deceased personally, describing him as a “consummate journalist” who mentored many and served the profession with dedication, integrity and excellence.

According to her, Akpan’s humility, professionalism and commitment to truth distinguished him throughout his career.
“His immense contributions to journalism and the development of the media profession earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across the country. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of media practitioners in Nigeria and beyond,” Edu said.
She extended her condolences to Akpan’s wife, children, the entire Akpan family, friends and professional colleagues, praying that God would grant him eternal rest and give the bereaved the strength to bear the loss.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” she added.
