THEWILL publisher, Austyn Ogannah joins Delta North senate race under PDP

Ogannah Onyeama Austyn, a prominent journalist and publisher of THEWILL, has officially entered the race for the 2027 Delta North Senatorial District.
The contest for the seat took a significant turn following the publication of his nomination and clearance documents by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirming him as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the National Assembly election.
The publication marks the completion of a key stage in the electoral process, formally ushering the THEWILL Newspaper publisher into the contest for the Delta North Senate seat and adding a new dynamic to one of Delta State’s most closely watched political races.
Documents released by INEC show that Ogannah met all statutory nomination requirements under the Electoral Act, clearing the way for his participation in the senatorial election.
His emergence has drawn attention across political and media circles, reflecting a notable transition from journalism and media entrepreneurship into frontline politics.
Widely regarded as an accomplished media entrepreneur, Ogannah is the founder and publisher of THEWILL Newspaper, which has grown under his leadership into a prominent digital news platform known for investigative reporting, political coverage, and public policy analysis.
Over the years, he has been actively involved in discussions on governance, accountability, institutional reform, and national development, engaging stakeholders across government, the private sector, and civil society.
His decision to seek elective office marks a shift from reporting on public affairs to pursuing a direct role in lawmaking and representation for the people of Delta North.
Political observers say his unexpected entry has reshaped the contest, introducing another strong contender into a race already attracting widespread attention. Analysts believe his candidacy could intensify competition, particularly with Ifeanyi Okowa, who is also seeking the Senate seat under the All Progressives Congress.
Although campaigns have yet to officially begin, the Delta North senatorial race is already shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle.
