The 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season kicks off today, Friday, August 28, with Shooting Stars hosting newly promoted Inter Lagos in the opening fixture at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

The South-West derby, scheduled for 4pm WAT, will mark Inter Lagos’ first-ever appearance in Nigeria’s top-flight league as the newly promoted side begins life among the country’s elite.

Shooting Stars will have home advantage as they welcome the Lagos-based club to Ibadan for what promises to be an intriguing opening encounter.

The league returns with significant developments off the pitch, including a new three-year, $7.5m title sponsorship agreement with EuroMatch Group, worth $2.5m per season.

The champions of the 2026/27 campaign will also compete for a record N1bn prize money, described as the largest winner’s purse in Nigerian club football history.

While 3SC and Inter Lagos get the season underway today, the remaining nine Matchday One fixtures are scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 30.

Among Sunday’s fixtures is a meeting between defending champions Rangers International and Katsina United.

The Lekan Salami Stadium will provide the setting for the first competitive chapter of the 2026/27 NPFL season as Shooting Stars and Inter Lagos battle for an opening-day advantage.
