EFCC Arrests Over 20 Suspects in Lekki Raid as Investigation Deepens

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has apprehended more than 20 individuals during an operation targeting a residential complex in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, as part of its ongoing campaign to identify and address suspected financial crimes.

An EFCC representative, speaking without authorisation for public disclosure, verified the intelligence-driven raid while confirming that investigative work remained in progress.

The operation took place in the early morning hours of Monday, July 27, at a facility located on QMB Road in Ikate, Lekki.

Acting on established intelligence, commission operatives entered the premises and detained multiple individuals whose names have been withheld pending completion of the investigative phase.

The official indicated that operatives were conducting profiling of detainees and examining materials obtained during the search, with further information to be disclosed when appropriate.

According to accounts from sources acquainted with the events, EFCC personnel conducted systematic searches across multiple residential units within the complex, engaged with residents in questioning, and retrieved items considered relevant to the inquiry before placing more than 20 detainees in custody.

The agency has not yet disclosed the names of those arrested or specified the nature of alleged offences under investigation.

Certain residents made assertions that select apartments within the complex may have functioned as locations for internet-facilitated criminal activity and other prohibited conduct.

These claims have not undergone independent verification, and the EFCC has made no official statements associating any detainee, property owner, or occupant with criminal activity.

The operation has generated notice within the Lekki vicinity, with residents and commercial operators characterising it as a significant enforcement action in the locality during recent months.

Community members reported observing reduced activity at the facility following the raid, which had previously maintained substantial occupancy levels.

Investigators are presently analysing recovered materials and executing background assessments on those detained to determine whether adequate grounds exist for pursuing prosecutorial proceedings.
