Okpebholo Deploys 25 Buses for Free Transport of Corps Members

BENIN CITY — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has deployed 25 buses to provide free transportation for members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from the Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs) across the state.

The buses, comprising 20 conventional buses and five coaster buses, were deployed to transport the corps members to the 18 local government areas of the state following the completion of their three-week orientation programme.

Edo State Commissioner for Youth, Hon. Charity Amayanvbo, who disclosed this, said the vehicles arrived at the Okada orientation camp at about 9 a.m. to facilitate the orderly and seamless movement of the corps members to their destinations.

According to him, the transportation was provided at no cost to the corps members as part of the state government’s efforts to ease the financial and logistical challenges associated with their deployment, particularly for those travelling to unfamiliar communities.

Amayanvbo said, “The provision of these buses is aimed at ensuring that our corps members get to their Places of Primary Assignment safely and without additional financial burden. The governor is committed to the welfare and safety of young people serving in Edo State.”

He recalled that Governor Okpebholo had, in June, approved the payment of outstanding meal subsidies owed to corps members, describing the latest intervention as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to their welfare.

The NYSC Edo State Coordinator, Mr. Adedotun Julius Fasina commended the governor for the gesture, saying the free transportation would significantly ease the corps members’ movement from the orientation camp to their PPAs.

Fasina said the intervention would enable the corps members to proceed to their destinations without the stress and uncertainty of sourcing commercial transportation after completing their orientation.

He expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government for its continued support, adding that the gesture would boost the confidence and morale of the corps members as they begin their service year.

Some of the corps members also expressed gratitude to the governor and the state government, saying the free transportation came at a time when many of them would otherwise have faced difficulties locating and paying for transport to their various places of assignment.
