Delta State’s governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, recently revealed how much he takes home each month N503,000.
He shared this detail in a video that went viral at an event in Asaba.
Surprisingly, the governor pointed out that other officials in the state earn more than he does.
A Permanent Secretary makes N900,000 a month, which is nearly double what he gets.
The Head of Service pulls in N1 million monthly.
Oborevwori noted that his administration was among the first to implement the new minimum wage across the state, but the salary structure has ended up putting top civil servants ahead of the governor in terms of monthly earnings.
An online news platform highlighted that Delta State actually receives some of the largest chunks of money from the federal government’s account sharing system.
As an oil-producing state, it gets an additional cut of 13 per cent.
In just the first seven months of this year, the federal government, states, and local councils shared about N16 trillion in total.
“My salary is ₦503,000 today in Delta State. Permanent Secretaries earn more than the governor; their salary is ₦900,000, while mine is ₦503,000.”
