Navy Intercepts 105,000 Litres of Suspected Stolen Crude Oil in Delta

During a series of anti-crude oil theft operations in Delta State, the Nigerian Navy discovered around 105,000 liters of items believed to be stolen crude oil.

The activities, carried out under Operation Delta Sentinel in the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta Area of Operation, also resulted in the discovery of hidden storage facilities reportedly used by suspected oil thieves to store stolen crude.

Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, stated that the recovered products consisted of about 60,000 liters and 45,000 liters collected at separate places in Delta State’s Oteghele axis.

According to him, the seizures demonstrate both the persistence of crude oil theft and the Navy’s willingness to demolish the infrastructure that facilitates the illegal trade.

According to Folorunsho, “the operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt crude oil theft networks, protect critical oil and gas assets, and prevent economic losses to the nation.”

The most recent operation, he continued, highlights the success of the Navy’s continuous campaign against illicit bunkering and crude oil theft throughout the Niger Delta.

The Navy spokesperson claims that the accomplishments of Operation Delta Sentinel are a result of persistent efforts to dismantle criminal networks engaged in economic sabotage and safeguard the nation’s oil and gas infrastructure.

Folorunsho reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to protecting Nigeria’s maritime environment thru ongoing operations meant to prevent the theft of crude oil, improve national security, and aid in the country’s economic growth.
