Ogun man arrested, arraigned for multimillion-naira fraud

A 30-year-old man, Chinmereuche Nwokonma, on Wednesday stood before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for multimillion-naira fraud.
Mr Nwokonma is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at Oja in Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant obtained N5.7 million from a complainant, Adepegba Adeolu, under the pretext of supplying some materials.
He alleged that the defendant failed to make the supply but converted the money to his personal use.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 319(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N600,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ms Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the state government.
She adjourned the case until August 20 for hearing.
