G¥nmen have l@unched coordinated att@cks on Berom communities across Plateau State, resulting in the d£@ths of two individuals, injuring one additional person, and destroying residential structures.
The violence occurred Tuesday evening across at least four separate locations encompassing Gwa-Wereng Rim, Kyeng Village in Bachi District, Dorong and Jol Village.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association confirmed the fatalities Wednesday, detailing the c!rrcumstances surrounding each incident.
At Gwa-Wereng Rim, g¥nmen unleashed gunfire on residents at approximately 9:30 p.m., resulting in the d£@th of Bulus Mwagwong and fatal inj¥ries to his relative Yakubu.
In Kyeng Village, Bachi District, a 47-year-old individual identified as Stephen Dachollom Kaze succumbed to att@ck-related injuries at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Subsequent att@cks targeted Dorong, where armed assailants set residential structures ablaze, precipitating property destruction and forcing inhabitants to evacuate in fear.
At Jol Village, armed assailants exchanged g¥nfire with community vigilante groups, intensifying localised tensions.
The association’s National President condemned the escalating pattern of violence, characterising it as a substantial threat to rural community security and economic livelihoods.
The organisation expressed particular concern regarding the mounting frequency of att@cks targeting agricultural populations dependent on farmland production.
BYM appealed to security authorities to augment protective presence within vulnerable settlements, intensify surveillance operations and pursue perpetrators whilst urging the state government to provide emergency assistance to impacted families and communities.
The association conveyed condolences to bereaved relatives whilst calling for vigilance, peaceful conduct and unified community response to prevent further violence escalation and restore resident confidence.
