Police Arrest 13 Suspects, Recover Guns in Abia Crackdown

The Abia State Police Command says it has arrested 13 suspects over allegations of armed r0bbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and vandalisation of government property.
According to the command, operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) intercepted and apprehended 27-year-old Uchenna Agbneiwu, a native of Nkume in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State but resident in Ubakala, over alleged vandalism.
This was disclosed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, in a press statement issued on Wednesday.
She said a vandalised section of a large pipeline, concealed with sawdust inside a white Toyota Hiace bus, was recovered from the suspect, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down other suspects still at large.
The spokesperson further disclosed that operatives of the VCRU, Aba North, apprehended another suspect, Williams Ifeanyi of Market Road, Aba, on August 2, 2026, over an alleged incident in which a victim was accosted and dispossessed of his bag and personal belongings at gunp0int along Market Road by Rail.
A pistol and live cartridges were recovered from him.
In a similar development, the command said operatives of the Urratta Divisional Police Station arrested two other suspects, John Chigozie and David Anyaka, in connection with an alleged armed r0bbery at a hotel in Aba on August 1, 2026, with a pistol and live ammunition recovered from them.
The command also said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Bende Road, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended members of a violent criminal group during a meeting at Umuezeagwu, Umuahia North.
According to the PPRO, items recovered from the suspects included a pump-action gun, a Beretta pistol, live cartridges, a cutlass, an axe, substances suspected to be hard drugs, walkie-talkies, a face mask, two red berets and a black beret. Investigations are said to be ongoing.
