Police arrest 70-year-old man for def!ling 8-year-old girl

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a septuagenarian, Usman Abubakar, for allegedly def!ling an 8-year-old girl in Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis. 

The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, August 29,  2026.

The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, on Wednesday, August 26, by the victim’s father.

According to Habib, the father stated that the suspect allegedly lured his 8-year-old daughter to an uncompleted building in the area where he s3xually assaulted her. 

Police operatives promptly swung into action and arrested the suspect. 

The suspect confessed to the crime during investigation. 

“In its sustained fight against s3xual and gender-based crimes, the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man over the alleged def!lement of an 8-year-old girl in Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis,” the statement read.

“The case was reported at ‘E’ Division Yelwa on Wednesday, 26th August, 2026 at about 1130hrs, by a 48-year-old father, of Tsakanin Bayara. 

“He stated that on Sunday, 24th August, 2026 at about 1100hrs, one Usman Abubakar, a 70-year-old man, of the same address, allegedly lured his 8-year-old daughter to an uncompleted building in the area where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Division promptly swung into action and arrested the suspect. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

“The victim was immediately taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and care.

“CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), condemned the act in strong terms and assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect charged to court in accordance with the law.

“The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.

“The Command reiterates its zero tolerance for s3xual violence and child abuse, and urges parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.”
