Police arrest two suspected armed robbers in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Dane gun and three live cartridges during a patrol operation in Odogunyan area of the state.
The suspects were identified as 32-year-old Arowolo Damilola and 29-year-old Adewale Olayinka.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the operation was carried out in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime across the state.
According to the statement, the suspects attempted to flee after sighting the security team but were apprehended.
“As part of the sustained efforts to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the local vigilante group, arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Dane gun as well as three live cartridges during a crime prevention patrol in Odogunyan area of the state.
“During the patrol operation, the operatives intercepted the two suspects, who were carrying a handbag and attempted to flee upon sighting the security team. They were swiftly apprehended, and a search of the handbag in their possession led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Dane gun and three live cartridges,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects are in custody and assisting investigators.
“The suspects are currently in custody and assisting the police with ongoing investigations, after which they will be charged in court,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria for their vigilance and collaboration, which led to the arrest and recovery of the firearm.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
