Three vigilantes killed in overnight gun attack in Plateau

Three members of a local vigilante group have been reportedly killed after gunmen attacked a civilian guard post at Gwa Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Locals disclosed that the incident happened around 2 am on Wednesday, when the gunmen opened fire on the vigilantes as they kept watch at the community’s guard post.
A native of Riyom, Damba Dang, who confirmed the incident, said the attackers struck when the community was asleep, killing three of the local security guards.
Dang lamented the renewed attacks on communities in the area, saying residents were becoming increasingly worried over their safety.
He said the killing of the vigilantes was particularly disturbing because they were only providing security for their community and helping to protect residents against attacks.
He appealed to security agencies to urgently strengthen security around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom to prevent further attacks.
Dang also urged security operatives to investigate the incident, track down the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
