A truck driver has alleged that some police officers stationed at the Tema Harbour entrance demand GH¢20 from drivers before allowing their trucks into the harbour, claiming that those who refuse are made to wait as long as three days before being granted entry.
The driver recorded a live video detailing the allegations, in which a uniformed police officer is seen collecting money from one driver before permitting him to proceed.
The footage also shows about four trucks parked at the entrance, reportedly belonging to drivers who had refused to pay the money demanded.
In one clip, a driver is seen pleading with the officers to pardon him and allow him through after declining to pay.
The video has since circulated online, adding to a string of similar extortion allegations previously raised against police personnel at checkpoints across Ghana.
The Ghana Police Service has not yet issued a response to the specific allegations raised in this video, and it remains unclear whether the matter has been formally reported for investigation.
