Wike’s remarks on Bode George reckless, baseless — Lagos PDP

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing his comments against party chieftain Olabode George as “baseless, reckless and ignorant.”

Spokesman of the party, Prince Dr. Christopher Odianarewo, accused Wike of making unfounded attacks against the elder statesman and urged him to concentrate on his responsibilities as FCT Minister.

He defended George’s record, stating that the Supreme Court had cleared him of allegations relating to his tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board.

He accused Wike of disregarding judicial pronouncements while attempting to tarnish the image of a man he described as a respected leader.

The Lagos PDP also faulted Wike over comments concerning George’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, describing them as an abuse of office and an unwarranted intrusion into the private affairs of a citizen.

According to him, neither Wike nor Rivers State has any connection with the property, insisting that the minister’s remarks amounted to an attempt to intimidate private individuals through the influence of public office.

He further argued that Wike lacked a proper understanding of the political history of the PDP in Lagos, maintaining that George played a significant role in the party’s successes as its former National Vice Chairman (South).

He also alleged that Wike had built a reputation for falling out with political associates, claiming that several leaders who contributed to his political rise had later become estranged from him.

The Lagos PDP urged the minister to desist from making what it described as inflammatory remarks against George and instead focus on addressing the challenges facing the Federal Capital Territory.

He concluded that Wike should respect senior party leaders and refrain from further attacks on the PDP chieftain.
