“Celebrate Me While I’m Alive, Not When I’m Gone” — Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged people to show love and appreciation to their loved ones while they are still alive rather than waiting until after their death.

Speaking during a recent public engagement, Fayose disclosed that he has already informed his children where he wishes to be buried, stressing that he does not want elaborate posthumous celebrations.

“If you want to celebrate me, do it now. If you want to give me food, give me now,” Fayose said, emphasizing that acts of kindness and appreciation are most meaningful when a person is alive to experience them.

In a humorous but pointed remark, the former governor added that anyone who comes to his burial to pay respects after neglecting him during his lifetime would be met with disapproval.

“Anybody that comes to my burial ground, I will cane him,” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience while reinforcing his message about valuing people before it is too late.

Fayose’s comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians agreeing that genuine love, care, and support should be expressed during a person’s lifetime rather than through lavish funeral ceremonies.
