Woman allegedly beheads co-wife in Kano

A woman, Safiya Usaini, has been arraigned before a Kano Magistrates’ Court for allegedly k!lling and beheading her co-wife after accusing her of spying on her while she was in the bathroom.

The suspect was brought before the court, presided over by Magistrate Auwal Yusuf, following the conclusion of police investigation into the alleged k!lling.

Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Muhammad Aliyu Umar, presented the suspect and read the charge of culpable homicide to her.

However, the court declined to proceed with the case after holding that it lacked jurisdiction to hear a murder case.

The prosecutor subsequently asked the court to adjourn the matter to enable the prosecution to obtain legal advice from the government on the next step.

The court granted the request and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, for further mention, while ordering that the accused be remanded in a correctional centre.

Safiya is alleged to have attacked and beheaded her co-wife, Safiya Saleh, with a machete in Loko, Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.

The suspect was allegedly angered by accusations that her co-wife had spied on her while she was using the bathroom.
