Youths raid shrines in Rivers community over alleged "demonic and ritual activities"

A coalition of youths in Onne community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, raided and destroyed several shrines in the community in an effort to put an end to what they described as alleged demonic and ritual activities.
The youths, under the leadership of Comrade Gift Aken and Pastor Arun Ejor, stormed the shrines on Monday, August 17, 2026.
One of the shrines destroyed belonged to a woman identified as Ezewanyi, who they accused of practising traditional rituals for years, along with other suspected shrines in the area.
According to the youths, their decision was aimed at ensuring that shrines allegedly associated with harmful or occult practices no longer operate within Onne.
