Odele thrilled as Age Grade Tennis Tournament ends on high

Chief Gbolahan Odele has expressed delight over the successful completion of the fourth annual Age Grade Tennis Tournament sponsored by him, saying the performance of the young players offered renewed hope for the future of tennis in Nigeria.

The tournament, organised by Badejo Sports and Chief Gbolahan Odele Foundation, ended at the weekend after a keenly contested competition involving boys and girls in the U-12, U-14 and U-16 categories.

While some of the preliminary matches were played at the Lagos Country Club, the final was held at the Adejumo Tennis Sports Centre before a large crowd of tennis enthusiasts.

Odele watched the youngsters display their skills and determination throughout the competition and was particularly impressed by the quality of the final matches.

Chief Odele said: “I am highly thrilled that the event went well. Seeing the youths competing passionately with so much guts was a huge delight.

“The final was very explosive.

“So many fireworks in the matches and I am so impressed with optimism that the future of tennis is bright in Nigeria.

“We will continue to keep the flag flying and ensure the ensure the tournament gets better with every edition. I appreciate the kids and their parents for turning up in numbers.”

In the Girls U-12 final, Ameera Adebayo defeated Chidumto Obiora 5/3-0/4-15/13, while Salau Abdulmaleek beat Goodluck Onorode to win the Boys U-12 category.

Mabubat Rasaki emerged victorious in the Girls U-14 category after defeating Josephine Musa 4/1-5/4.

In the Boys U-14 category, Friday Testimony defeated Oloyede Abiodun 4/1, 4/1 to claim the title.

In the youth cadre, Amir Mohammed emerged winner of the UTR event for boys, while Toluwalase Agunbiade achieved the same feat in the girls’ youth category.
