I am honoured, Hamzat appreciates governorship endorsement

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following his endorsement as preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a post shared on his X handle on Monday, Hamzat said the governor’s support was deeply valued, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership capacity.
“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. His trust means a great deal to me,” he wrote.
He added that both men had worked closely in steering Lagos affairs over the years, stressing that he does not take the endorsement lightly.
“We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly,” he said.

Hamzat further pledged continuity in governance and commitment to service delivery if given the opportunity to lead the state.
“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose,” he added.

The endorsement comes after Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, publicly backed his deputy on Monday during a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat reportedly declared his intention to contest the governorship seat.
According to the governor, the decision followed a consensus among political stakeholders present at the meeting, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council.
Sanwo-Olu had described Hamzat as “fit and well-prepared” for the role, adding that he has worked with him at the highest level of trust and governance over the past years.
