Lagos 2027: Sanwo-Olu endorses deputy as successor + Video

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has endorsed his deputy, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The endorsement took place on Monday at the Lagos House, Marina, where Sanwo-Olu publicly backed Hamzat as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the next governorship race.
The governor made the declaration in the presence of members of the State Executive Council, APC leaders, and all 57 local government chairmen and local council development area chairmen.
Sanwo-Olu said Hamzat has the capacity to govern Lagos because of his experience and deep knowledge of the state’s administration.
The endorsement came after weeks of political consultations by Hamzat across the state, during which he received support from political and community leaders.
The Eagle Online recalls that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, openly backed Hamzat’s governorship ambition.
Other key figures who have also endorsed him include the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the representative of Lagos East Senatorial District, Tokunbo Abiru; and a former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
The growing endorsements are expected to strengthen Hamzat’s position within the APC ahead of the party’s internal process for the 2027 election.
