New Osun REC pledges fairness for August 15 gov poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State has said about 381, 817 new voters have registered in the state, ahead of the forthcoming governorship poll, and assured that the Commission will conduct a credible poll.

The assurance was given by the newly deployed Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Oluwatoyin Babalola, while speaking with journalists during a courtesy visit to the correspondents’ chapel office in Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday.

Babalola, who warned against any act of electoral malfeasance, said those planning to engage in vote trading should drop the idea.

Giving updates on the Continuous Voters Registration exercise in the state, the REC said, “381, 817 fresh voters were recorded after devolution to Registration Areas.”

The REC also said 1,391 new registrations by people living with disabilities were recorded after the devolution to Registration Areas, while 50, 747 voters transferred their PVCs to the state.

She put the figure of PVC collected after the devolution to the Registration Areas at 1,865, saying the Commission treated a total of 499, 809 applications, including updates, reviews and lost/damaged.

On the INEC’s preparation for the August 15 governorship poll, Babalola said, “All necessary preparations are ongoing and we remain resolute in our determination to deliver an election that reflects the will of the people in the state.

She said, “INEC Osun state under my watch pledges a free, fair, credible, and transparent 2026 Osun state governorship election. We will continue to inform you as we progress in all our preparations for the election.”

The PidomNigeria reports that Babalola was recently redeployed to Osun from Ondo state, replacing Dr Mutiu Agboke.
